DD&K Q&A: Loula Cherry

Who are you? I’m Loula Cherry, hello!

What do you do? I’m a general trouble maker, serial over dresser - I wear corsets to the pub - and poser. It just so happens that sometimes it’s all caught on camera and I’ve been told that makes me a model.

How did you get to where you are today? I don’t really know…. I started by doing some Pin Up modelling for fun, I put them out of Facebook and people liked them. Some photos were used by Busty Brits and almost overnight I had a fan base! I have somehow created a reputation for myself as a curvy, tattooed, pin up and fetish model.

Who is your hero? Now that’s a hard one… I’ve got a few for very different reasons, the main thread with them is overcoming obstacles. At the moment my biggest hero is Nanny Dora. She’s an amazing burlesque performer that is successfully challenging industry prejudices and home life problems head on with amazing dignity, strength and courage.

What colour is happiness? Red – preferably red and sparkly!

What is your ambition? Honestly… To be a mother. I really want the dream,’normal’ life. Though of course my version of normal also includes a dominant, sadistic husband and a full dungeon in the basement…

What country would you like to visit? I’m desperate to get back to Australia to see some amazing friends that I miss dearly. Other than that I want to go to Cambodia to see the temples at Angkor.

What are you having for dinner? I have no idea! I’m sick, so I’m at the mercy of whoever decides to feed me!

What’s your favourite song? My ultimate favourite is Tool - “Parabol/Parabola” (I have the lyrics tattooed on my back). Today’s favourite is Puscifer - “Rev 22:20” and yesterdays was Send No Flowers – “Effervescent Smile”.

Who inspires you? Another thing that seems to change daily. Terry Pratchett is a big inspiration at the moment. If he can keep going and keep doing what he does with the problems he has, I can keep going and doing with my own health problems.

Do you sleep on the left, right or middle of the bed? If I’m alone I roll from one side to the other repeatedly. Sometimes I wake up with my nose pressed to the wall, other times like a starfish in the middle. If I’ve got company I stay on my side and barely move at all. I’ve had people wake me up half convinced I was dead because I hadn’t moved and they couldn’t hear me breathing!

What posters did you have on your wall as a teenager? My walls were covered in band posters. I’m music mad and my passions range from Grunge to Metal via Industrial and Rockabilly . I still have some posters on my wall, including a great one of Eddie Vedder on stage circa ‘92 above my TV and the classic smoking shot of Kurt Cobain, Tool album covers, a Nine Inch Nails tour poster and a very rare Send No Flowers album advert in my work space.

Who should be banished from the planet? Whoever is was that created the music for the Avios advert… It’s horrible, goes right through you and makes me shudder every time I hear it

What was the last thing you bought? A great album by an unsigned band that I should have bought ages ago – “Movin On” by Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic Children of the Knight. Plus three t-shirts so that I can pledge my allegiance in public! They are an amazing, local stoner/doom metal band. Where are the answers? I really don’t know. They seem to appear when you stop looking for them though.

How much money is in your wallet right now? A few pound coins and a handful of shrapnel. Everything I have is going into the ‘Australia Flight Fund’ at the moment. It’s not getting very big though and I’m itching to raid it so that I can get new tattoos!

Which film do you quote from the most? The Crow – ‘It can’t rain all the time’

What are you really good at doing? Keeping secrets. I’m a listener and a problem fixer. Lots of people seem to gravitate towards me when they have problems, though sometimes the answers are not what they want to hear. I’m also really good at knowing song lyrics, sometimes after hearing a song just once… My head is so full of them I doubt there’s much room for anything else! I have other talents… but they are best kept as surprises for very lucky people…!

How can we make the world a better place? By being honest with everyone. Yes it will hurt sometimes, but honesty is always the best policy. Lies just make everything so much harder and so much worse.
